Friend, Wake Up: You’re Not Inheriting the Company

Work stories. Pixel art illustration of a woman with red glasses reading a handwritten letter at a desk with a lamp, a retro computer, and a night city skyline in the background.

Friend, wake up: you’re not inheriting the company comes from the need to share real experiences, things that have happened to all of us, or could happen to any of us, if we don’t know that this kind of situation, as absurd as it sounds, actually happens. It catches you off guard, without enough experience, or at a moment when you feel like you just have to keep your mouth shut and take it. Here we gather real workplace stories, all kinds, so you can recognize them in time.

The important thing is knowing that we’ve all lived through uncomfortable, difficult moments at work, and that there’s no reason to feel bad or alone about it. There are a lot of us, and we can support each other: help each other climb out of whatever mess we’re stuck in, or just give each other a pat on the back to remember we’re worth something.

What you know, what you’re good at, who you are, that matters. And if nobody’s really valuing it, friend, wake up: that’s not the place for you. Get out while you can.

And mental health comes first. Take care of it.

If you’ve got your own workplace story to share, write to me at jenniffer@guaduastudio.com and I’ll publish it anonymously in upcoming posts. Just make sure to close your story with what you learned from it, whatever good came out of it. Thanks.
